Dale Anderson, President
Dale Kenneth Anderson’s road to becoming one of Wisconsin’s most highly respected masons is one of hard work, dedication, perseverance, and loyalty to and from employees. In over four decades of masonry contracting, Dale has seen his business evolve from a small team doing basements and concrete to an organized, generational, family-based corporation creating the highest-end masonry solutions for the most demanding clients and applications. Oh, and don’t get me wrong; he still likes those basements!
Dale was born in Milwaukee, WI, and raised on a farm in the Town of Hill, Ogema, Wisconsin, graduating from Prentice High School in 1963. For a time he worked for National Lock Co. in Rockford, IL, and a few months after after the birth of son Paul in 1965, he started work with Stolzey Masonry, beginning as a laborer but quickly moving into the position of mason. Daughter Jennifer came soon after, in 1968. With an opportunity to partner with Conrad Fies in 1969, C & D Masonry was formed, based in Slinger, WI. Fast-forward 20 productive years of work, with Dale just completing an apartment building for a large retirement facility, Cedar Communities, when he was approached by their general contractor to remodel a large building. Anderson had considered branching out and forming a new company, and this was a perfect opportunity to do just that. In founding the new Dale Anderson Masonry, Inc. in 1989, he enlisted his first three valued employees, Paul Wagner, Pat Janzer, and Steve Opetz, who remain with Dale to this day. That single job with Cedar Communities turned into five years of steady work, and during this time DAM worked on other projects with area builders on weekends, increasing their reach, their staff, and exploring new projects and techniques. DAM did their first work with acclaimed Moore Designs in 1996, forging an enduring partnership that has provided beautiful and challenging high-end opportunities for the team. In this period Dale also met wife-to-be Lisa, and enjoyed the birth of son Jakob and daughter Anita. Elder son Paul, presently acting as VP of Construction, finally returned to Wisconsin and re-joined the company full-time in 1998, and daughter and freelance artist Jenny has contributed project illustrations for the firm and shot many of the photos appearing on this site. Recent years have continued to produce a wide variety of residential and commercial work, with an increased staff, full-time office administration, and expanding offerings. Dale attended his first Masonry Heater Association conference at Wildacres Retreat, South Carolina in spring of 2008, which led to the company’s first forays into custom masonry heaters and bake ovens, including pizza ovens. Today, Dale, Lisa and kids enjoy life in their beautifully restored Allenton, WI farmhouse, which doubles as the location of their offices, and equipment and materials warehouse. Note: we’ll call it a warehouse, but predictably, it’s a beautiful, stone building with brick archways and accents, and of course a nearby pizza oven! Hey, you practice what you preach.
